This means at the end of this week you have approximately 4 weeks until the end of term, which translates into 9 classes left to complete all of this work.  The following is a condensed list of all assignments due for term 1. ALL assignments need to be in sets on Flickr by this date for marking, no exceptions.

Macros: This assignmnet should include 10 up close, clear shots, vary your shots so that I can see the diversity in your ability to shoot objects. (marks 20)

Spot colour: You are to take 5 shots (these shots can be from another assignment, but make sure you are focused on making the colour pop)  (marks 10)

Portraits: You are to take 10 shots varying the kind of shots you get of people. For example: a couple of head shots up close, a couple of head and shoulder shots, a couple of full body shots, and a couple using a prop. Try not to use more than 4 different models.  (marks 20)

The things that need to be considered when shooting portraits include:
  • be aware of your background, it should not overpower your model and it should not be cluttered.
  • you may want to have your model choose a certain style of clothing for the shoot
  • you may want to bring props such as a hat, scarf, skateboard, balloons or umbrella
  • choose a location or a variety of locations to shoot your subject
  • encourage your model to feel comfortable and do what comes natural to them
  • DO NOT SHOW YOUR MODEL EACH SHOT..this wastes time, tell them they can have a look when the shoot has been completed
  • get a variety of shots using different distance ranges
  • use natural light, avoid harsh sun
  • see the advanced Photography site for links and video on how to take good macros

Water shots: This assignment involves getting creative and taking 3 shots of water. This can involve bodies of water, water droplets, people playing in the rain, coloured water. Have fun being creative and interpreting this assignment the way it works best for you. (marks 10)

Conceptual shots: 3 photos of a conceptual word. In this assignment, you are working as a conceptual photographer taking a word and then transforming it into a photo. For example if the word is joy, then you would try to come up with a photo which represents this idea. Go to getty images or Evolve images and type in a conceptual word and get some ideas by viewing what kind of photos are connected to this word. (marks 15)
All three photos do not have to be of the same conceptual word. Here are some samples word ideas: joy, love, surprise, death, end, beauty, peace, balance, creativity, fun, excitement, weathered, old, decay, freedom etc.
